01 - 25 Nov 2024

The exhibition coinciding with the inaugural of “Editions”, the region's first limited-edition art and design fair launching during Dubai Design Week, 6-9
November.

This exhibition looks into the significance of limited edition prints as a medium that has allowed artists to experiment with various techniques and connect with broader audiences. Featured artworks include pieces by artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, David Hockney, as well as prominent modern and contemporary artists from the region, including Leyly Matine Daftary, Charles Hossein Zendehroudi, and S.H. Raza among others.

The 20th century marked a surge in the production of limited-edition prints, driven by artists who sought to democratize art and push creative boundaries. Pop artists like Warhol, with his iconic silkscreens, alongside abstract expressionists such as Joan Mitchell, known for her emotionally charged compositions, and Robert Rauschenberg, celebrated for his layered works combining photography, painting, and found imagery, expanded the ways art could be experienced, collected, and appreciated by the public.

The concept of limited-edition prints traces its roots back to the 15th century, with techniques like woodcut, engraving, and etching. However, the advent of lithography in the 19th century truly set the stage for the modern practice. By the 20th century, advancements in printmaking had established limited edition prints as a significant presence in the art market, allowing artists to explore new ideas and create works
that were both artistically profound and commercially viable.

This exhibition also highlights a collection of rare signed posters by legendary artists such as Jasper Johns, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol. These posters are more than promotional materials; they are personal, intimate pieces of art. Often bearing dedications to specific individuals, they resonate with an emotional depth that transcends their artistic and historical significance.
